Golden India - But How Long

Each and every Indian should be proud as because India got a Gold Medal in Olympics. Yes, you rightly heard "A GOLD MEDAL". Yesterday, August 11th 2008, Abhinav Bindra a 26 year old boy got Gold Medal in 10m Air Rifle event. After long 28 years we got a GOLD in Olympics. Also this is the first as an individual event.

I am a software engineer and last three year I serve for other countries mostly for USA. I thought that the love towards my country is almost gone. However, I don't know why I become so much excited (Though the winner of the event is not so much expressive about it. May be this is why he is champion.) when I heard that we have a GOLD, may be the first of many. "May Be"! why? Yes I use a "May Be" because we Indians are so passionate about cricket and football that we always overlook the fact - We also have the talent in other sports. Never try to identify our strengths and nurture the same for better results. After this achievement we can easily found that there are many people talking about the gold medal of the Olympics but no one, specifically the governing bodies, are interested to improve the infrastructure. Now, you will ask me what can I do to improve it? How could it be possible? Yes! you are right we definitely can help it. Is it true? No, my dear friend no. Think about one thing if the very next day of wining GOLD in Olympics, Sachin got a double century or Sehwag got a triple century or Kumble got a hat trick there will be more gossip on cricket rather than the Abhinav Bindra. The difference is in our approach towards the games other than cricket or football.

Though it is totally my opinion, but every one will agree with me that we have a 1,100,000,000 people in India, there must be potential to get more and more GOLD in each and every Olympics. Am I wrong?

You are very right. Indians certainly do have the potential to win more gold medals at the Olympics and other events. However, I feel what is lacking here is the finding out and grooming of the rightly talented people and bringing them to the forefront.
